Genetic disorders are a significant category of infertility in men. Most of the time, the disorders that can be diagnosed in a man by performing genetic tests are not noticed until the subject of infertility is brought up. Infertility occurs when couples who have unprotected sexual intercourse on a regular basis for one year are unable to have a child. While there could be a variety of causes for this condition, genetic disorders could be one of them.

Infertility Caused by a Genetic Disorder in Men

Congenital disorders are genetic disorders that are among the causes of male infertility. In the absence of DNA sequencing, which ensures sperm production in a man’s Y chromosome, men do not produce sperm. Infertility manifests itself when sperm cannot be produced. Furthermore, primary ciliary dyskinesia is a genetically developed cell anaemia that has a negative impact on sperm movement. Sickle cell anaemia is also a genetically determined disease that has a negative impact on hormone secretion, which is necessary for sperm production. It is critical to collaborate with an expert team in order to evaluate all conditions correctly in the diagnosis of a genetic disorder.

A Genetic Disorder's Causes

A genetic disorder can be inherited from either the mother or the father. Furthermore, while becoming a parent at an advanced age affects the quality of the egg and sperm, some anomalies can be seen in the chromosome order available in both structures. The likelihood of a genetic disorder developing in the embryo as a result of these anomalies is high. The susceptibility to genetic disorders is also high in consanguineous marriages.

A Genetic Disorder's Symptoms

In cases where the pregnancy does not occur despite having unprotected sexual intercourse for one year on a regular basis, in cases of frequently repeated miscarriages, absence of sperm in the ejaculate, or insufficiency of sperm movements, the possibility of a genetic disorder is suspected.

The Identification of Genetic Disorders

A genetic screening test is used to diagnose genetic disorders. The cell samples obtained from the man are subjected to chromosome and DNA analyses.

IVF Therapy for Genetic Disorders

In the case of genetic disorders, IVF treatment varies depending on the cause. IVF treatment cannot be used if the man is unable to produce sperm on his own. However, in cases where sperm can be produced, methods such as Micro-Tese, which extracts sperm directly from the testicle, are used, and then IVF treatment is performed using a microinjection method.
