Laparoscopy
Laparoscopy is the general term for surgeries that are performed by opening a few small holes rather than making an incision. Laparoscopy, a successful surgery technique that has been used for many years, has recently been used for IVF treatment. Originally performed only to determine the underlying cause of infertility or to castrate women who do not wish to become pregnant by tying their tubes, they are now also performed for the purpose of having a baby.
Laparoscopic IVF Treatment
Infertility can be caused by a variety of factors. Among the most common problems are tube obstructions caused by previous diseases, cysts in the uterus or ovaries, shape abnormalities in the uterus structure, and intrauterine adhesions caused by previous surgeries. Laparoscopic surgery is used to treat these conditions and allow women to have children. The infertility cause can be treated with these surgeries by opening holes in the abdominal cavity and pelvis without making an incision. Intrauterine myomas and cysts, polyps, chocolate cysts in the ovaries, tube obstructions, and intrauterine adhesions can all be removed with a few hours of surgery. Because there are no large incisions, these surgeries, which are performed under general anesthesia, have a simple recovery process.
How Does Laparoscopy Work?
Laparoscopy surgery is performed under general anesthesia, and the length of the procedure varies depending on the procedure. If the person has myomas or cysts, these formations are removed from the region; uterine abnormalities are fixed; and if there are intrauterine adhesions or obstructions in the tubes, appropriate procedures are performed to solve these problems. Following that, special methods are used to sew small incisions opened for surgery.
Following Laparoscopic Surgery
The recovery from laparoscopic surgery is not as painful as it is with traditional surgical methods. After the anesthesia wears off, the patients can consume liquid foods and walk far enough to use the restroom. Individuals are discharged from the hospital after staying for one or two days. Heavy exercise and sexual intercourse are not advised during the first month.
Some future mothers do not feel the need for IVF treatment after undergoing laparoscopic surgery. Surgically removing the cause of infertility can be a sufficient method for having a baby. Between the third and sixth month, the likelihood of conception rises dramatically.
Is Laparoscopy Safe for IVF Treatment?
The likelihood of conception increases dramatically following laparoscopy surgery. While treatment is no longer required for some patients, eliminating the underlying cause of infertility significantly improves treatment success rates.
When Is IVF Used Following Laparoscopy?
The uterus is expected to heal within a month of the laparoscopy. Beginning in the third month, the necessary procedures for IVF treatment can be initiated.
