Vaginismus
Vaginismus is a condition in which no object can enter the vagina due to involuntary contraction of the muscles at the vaginal opening. This should not be regarded solely as a penis. It generally develops against tampons, suppository elements, and ultrasound during a gynaecological examination. It is one of the most prevalent functional disorders in females. In general, psychological factors are among the causes of the vaginismus, which occurs in 10% of women. Vaginismus can be caused by childhood traumas and abuses, insufficient sexual education, sexual taboos, and a high level of excitement.
Vaginismus is classified into two types: primary and secondary. Primary vaginismus is a condition in which the penis and other factors cause contraction. Penetration is impossible in this situation, which occurs during the first sexual encounter.
Secondary vaginismus is the occurrence of contractions caused by miscarriage, abortion, or birth processes in women who do not normally have any contraction problems. Penetration cannot occur again if a secondary vaginismus occurs.
What Are The Causes of Vaginismus?
Vaginismus is caused by psychological factors. Vaginismus can be caused by factors such as growing up under social and familial pressure, sexual unconsciousness, wedding night fear, the relationship between the purity concept and the hymen, and social prejudices. Additionally, experiencing traumatic events can cause vaginismus.
What Are the Signs and Symptoms of Vaginismus?
Vaginismus is defined as the inability to engage in sexual activity despite having a sexual appetite. Even though this is the most noticeable symptom, there are several others. These include incomplete sexual intercourse, pain, sweating, tightness, tachycardia, and fear of death during sexual intercourse, resulting in a panic attack. Aside from sexual intercourse, symptoms such as an inability to use a tampon or suppository and a fear of gynaecological examinations can be observed.
Method of Vaginismus Treatment
Vaginismus is a treatable sexual disorder. Working with a psychologist or psychiatrist who is an expert in their field can help you overcome vaginismus. Aside from the psychological aspect, teamwork should be performed by performing gynaecological evaluations. A small surgical intervention can cure this condition if the hymen is very solid and tight. The treatment can be supplemented by doing appropriate movements with the assistance of a physiotherapist in order to relax the muscles. As a result, a pelvic base check is performed. In necessary cases, hypnotherapy method also can be performed.
Vaginismus And Pregnancy
Women who have vaginismus are generally unable to conceive. Individuals can completely eliminate this situation if desired by treating vaginismus disorder directly. If desired, IVF treatment can be used. For IVF treatment, the person’s egg count and quality are assessed. Individuals who are found to be suitable can become pregnant successfully and safely.
