Laparoscopy

What is laparoscopy?

Laparoscopic surgery is a modern and minimally invasive surgical method performed through only a few small incisions, without making large cuts in the body.
This method is frequently used, especially in gynecological diseases and in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment.

Laparoscopy compared to traditional open surgery:

  • Less pain,
  • Faster recovery,
  • Smaller scars and
  • It stands out with its advantages of short hospital stays

How is Laparoscopic Surgery Performed?

Laparoscopic surgery is performed under general anesthesia, and the steps are as follows:

  1. General anesthesia is administered.
The patient is completely asleep and feels no pain during the procedure.
  2. Trocar insertion:
Small incisions of 0.5–1 cm is made in the abdominal area. Thin tubes (trocars) that allow the insertion of surgical instruments are inserted through these incisions.
  3. Laparoscope use:
A laparoscope, a thin, lighted instrument with a camera at its tip, is inserted into the abdomen. This allows the surgeon to view internal organs on a high-resolution screen.
  4. Surgical intervention:
Special surgical instruments are inserted through other trocars, and the necessary procedure (cyst removal, fallopian tube opening, fibroid removal, etc.) is performed.
  5. Closure:
Once the procedure is complete, the instruments are removed, and the incisions are usually closed with no stitches or minimal sutures.

🔹 Advantage:
Patients are usually discharged the same day or within one day.

In what situations is laparoscopy used?

Laparoscopy is one of the most frequently preferred methods in the diagnosis and treatment of gynecological diseases.

It may be applied in the following cases:

  • Investigation of the causes of infertility.
  • Clearing blocked tubes
  • Removal of ovarian cysts (chocolate cysts, endometriosis)
  • Removal of adhesions in the uterus
  • Removal of fibroids or polyps
  • Treatment of ectopic pregnancy
  • Tubal ligation (for contraception)

FertiJin IVF Center increases the chances of natural pregnancy, especially in patients whose infertility can be treated with laparoscopic surgery.

Laparoscopic In Vitro Fertilization Treatment

Laparoscopic surgery is a preparatory step performed on many patients before in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment.
It can particularly improve IVF success in the following situations:

  • If there are adhesions in the ovaries or fallopian tubes
  • If there is a malformation or polyp inside the uterus
  • If endometriosis (chocolate cyst) is present

When these problems are resolved with laparoscopy, some patients are able to conceive naturally, while in others the success rate of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment increases.

Recovery Process After Laparoscopy

The recovery process after laparoscopic surgery is quite comfortable:

  • The patient is usually discharged within 1-2 days.
  • Mild abdominal pain and gas may be experienced during the first few days.
  • Normal daily life can be resumed within 1 week.
  • Strenuous exercise or sexual intercourse is not recommended for 4–6 weeks.

💡 At FertiJin IVF Center, the post-operative process is meticulously monitored. A personalized recovery plan is implemented for each patient.

Pregnancy and In Vitro Fertilization Timing After Laparoscopy

After laparoscopy, the uterine and ovarian tissues are expected to heal completely.
This usually takes between 1 and 3 months.
While some patients may experience natural pregnancy after laparoscopy, others may begin in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment at the end of this period.

The FertiJin team determines the most suitable IVF timing for each patient based on their individual situation.

Types of Laparoscopic Surgery

  • Laparoscopic Myomectomy: Removal of fibroids from the uterus.

  • Laparoscopic Salpingostomy: Opening or repairing the fallopian tubes.
  • Laparoscopic Hysterectomy: Removal of the uterus and sometimes the cervix.
